Islamic Beliefs 1, taught by ustadh Sayed Mohammad Baqer Qazwini, introduces the fundamental concepts of Islamic theology ('Aqa'id) through rational, theological, and Qur'anic discussions. The course examines core questions about God, divine attributes, human free will, prophethood, and the Qur'an, providing a foundation for understanding Islamic beliefs. This course is the first part of a multi-year course on Islamic beliefs.

God and Divine Attributes

The course begins with the necessity of religion and rational arguments for the existence and oneness of God. It then examines the attributes of God, including divine knowledge, will, and speech, as well as questions concerning rational good and evil. The discussions also explore Qadha' and Qadar (divine decree and destiny) and Badaa', along with beliefs concerning the unseen and the role of angels.

Prophethood and Infallibility

The course then turns to the question of divine guidance and the necessity of sending prophets. It examines the signs and proofs of prophethood and discusses the concept of the infallibility of prophets, including theological discussions surrounding prophetic forgetfulness (Sahw).

The Qur'an and Its Divine Origin

The final part of the course focuses on the Qur'an, examining its literary and scientific aspects as evidence of its divine origin. It also addresses questions concerning the universality of the Islamic message and discusses claims regarding the Qur'an's relationship to earlier scriptures and the question of Tahrif (distortion).
