Course Title: Unspoken Truths of Ashura – Analyzing the Karbala Tragedy
Course Description:
This course explores the hidden dimensions of the Karbala tragedy and the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), based on the research of Sayyid Ali al-Milani in his book Unspoken Truths of Ashura. The course delves into three key aspects of the event:
- The causes and historical background leading to Ashura
- The events of Karbala and its unfolding tragedy
- The aftermath and its impact on Islamic history and humanity
Following the scholarly approach of classical Shi’a scholars, the course systematically refutes misconceptions and clarifies historical realities using primary Sunni and Shi’a sources. It examines reports from major historians such as al-Tabari, Ibn Asakir, Ibn Kathir, al-Dhahabi, and Ibn al-Athir, alongside foundational Shi’a works like Al-Irshad (Shaykh al-Mufid), Al-Luhuf (Sayyid Ibn Tawus), and Bihar al-Anwar (Allama al-Majlisi).
The course also addresses common doubts and misrepresentations surrounding Karbala, demonstrating how opponents of Shi’ism have historically distorted narratives. Additionally, it highlights the ethical methodology of Shi’a scholars, who have consistently defended their beliefs with intellectual rigor, respect, and academic integrity.
