About this course
Islamic Beliefs 2, taught by Sayed Mohammad Baqer Qazwini, examines major themes in Shia Islamic theology, with a particular focus on Imamate, the authority and infallibility of Ahlulbayt, intercession, Tawassul, and the belief in Imam Mahdi. The course considers these subjects through Qur'anic verses, hadith, theological arguments, and discussions of different perspectives. It is in continuance of Islamic Beliefs 1.
Imamate and Ahlulbayt (Peace be upon them)
The course begins with Imamate in Sunni theology and examines whether Shura can serve as a basis for Imamate. It then explores the concepts of Imam, Khalifah, and Wazir in the Qur'an, along with the Hadith of Daar and Hadith of Ghadir. Several sessions focus on the infallibility of Ahlulbayt (a), the belief that there are twelve Imams, and the knowledge attributed to the Imams.
Intercession and Tawassul
A major section of the course examines intercession (Shafa'ah). It discusses Qur'anic verses concerning intercession, the intercessors, and the conditions of intercession. The course also considers whether belief in intercession encourages sin, the permissibility of Tawassul, and the concept of intercession in Christianity and Judaism.
Imam Mahdi (a) and the Occultation
The course then turns to the belief in Imam Mahdi (a), exploring the importance of this belief, his birth, and the Minor Occultation. It also discusses the question of the long life of Imam Mahdi (a) and the signs associated with his reappearance.
The Reappearance and the End of the World
The final sessions examine Raj'ah (the Return) and the events surrounding the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (a). The course presents the reappearance step by step and discusses the idea of unity under the government of Imam Mahdi (a), concluding with a discussion of the end of the world.
