Islamic Beliefs 3, taught by Sayed Mohammad Baqer Qazwini, explores important questions in Islamic theology through rational arguments, Qur'anic evidence, and hadith. The course covers topics related to religious authority, Mut'ah marriage, the soul, death, and beliefs concerning the afterlife. It is in continuance of Islamic Beliefs 1 & 2.
Taqlid and Religious Authority
The course examines the rational basis of Taqlid, its evidence in the Qur'an and hadith, the institutionalization of Taqlid, and the question of following the most learned scholar. These sessions consider the role of scholarly authority and the reasoning behind the practice of Taqlid.
Mut'ah Marriage
Several sessions explore Mut'ah marriage from different perspectives, including its rational basis, evidence in Sunni hadith, and ethical considerations. The discussions examine the subject through both theological and ethical approaches.
The Soul, Death, and the Grave
The course then turns to beliefs concerning the soul and death, discussing the nature of the soul, the state of dying, and the separation of the soul from the body. It also addresses the grave and the question of helping the dead.
The Afterlife and Resurrection
The final part focuses on Ma'ad (the afterlife) and related beliefs. Topics include rational arguments for the afterlife, bringing back the annihilated, the blowing of the trumpet, the signs of the Hour, rising from the graves, and Mizan (the Scale).
